I spend time listening to my patients, and together we develop a treatment plan that motivates each individual to become involved in their own health care. Medications are used only if necessary, but non-drug therapy is my first choice for a healthy patient. My personal preventive therapies are backed by years of experience using both traditional and complimentary medicine approaches. Having practiced on the Monterey Peninsula for the past 18 years, I offer our community a fresh approach to the future of medicine--Longevity Medicine. Since 1976, I have promoted natural health practices, sometimes called "Holistic Medicine." The whole body approach includes some of the following concepts: Foods for enhanced longevity and healthy aging and a healthier lifestyle. We are now able to provide your optimum vitamin supplementation by personal metabolic analysis of your white blood cells. Health is improved by the use of therapeutic exercise, massage, breathing and walking programs, reduction of stress in the workplace, and the management or control of obesity, pain and addictive behaviors. Education is an important step. I strive to educate my patients on how to improve their quality of life and wellbeing and help them achieve their goals of physical and psychological total body wellness.

What is preventive Medicine?
Preventive Medicine specialists target medical problems before they become more serious. Regular medical check-ups, proper nutrition and regular exercise are essential. Preventive Medicine focuses on the health of individuals in order to protect, promote and maintain health and well being, as well as prevent disease, disability and premature death. Normal dietary intake of certain vitamins (A,C,E) is not enough to provide a strong defense against the development of certain diseases. Intense athletic performance or smoking cigarettes increases normal requirements due to increased exposure to oxygen fragments (free radicals). A nutritional analysis and blood metaboic analysis are essential to balance the interconnected effects of these substances on immune function and general health. Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a natural ancient technique utilizing the body's healing abilities to ease pain and speed recovery from injury . New Medical studies recomment Acupuncture as the best therapy for recovery from low back pain, sciatica, neck pain and headaches with no side effect. Treated patients return to work more rapidly, with an 86-98% success rate. Acupuncture is now approved by all insurance companies (including Blue Shield in our office) and also aids in pain prevention and rapid healing after joint surgery.
Since 1977 The practice of Acupuncture has been regulated by the Board of Medical Quality Assurance. A series of treatments are needed and these seem to be additive in action. Acupuncture is also recommended for athletic injuries, the management of pain, muscular aches, golfer's back, tennis elbow and chronic aches.
*The California Board of Medical Examiners definition is the "stimulation of a certain point or points on or near the surface of the body by the insertion of needles to prevent or modify the perception or to normalize physiologic functions, including pain control, for the treatment of certain diseases or dysfunction of the body".
Influenza, Hepatitis and Pneumonia Vaccines
Flu shots contain killed strains of Influenza virus that strike many people annually with much severity . Influenza vaccine stimulates an antibody response by the immune system, but it cannot give you the flu; it will protect you from getting it. Everyone over 65 or anyone with diabetes, depression, a heart or lung condition should get a flu and pneumonia vaccine for protection. Pneumonia vaccine protects against 32 strains of Streptococcos pneumoniae . It can save your life! Hepatitis A and B vaccines now offer protection from these potentially deadly diseases and are available at your local pharmacy.
